Trouble ahead
Now we were lucky enough to witness an interactions between lions and hyaenas at a carcass, you know, the thing I've been waiting for during my PhD??!!
Mum standing guard on the road
This young male left the carcass unattended, so the hyaena moved in straight away
Mum, you coming??
Ah, here you are!
Give me a lion hug!!
Owner chasing trespassers away (hyaena and jackals)
Everyone is now where he should be!

So finally we made it to Etosha, and after 8 days and 7 nights in the desert without shower we checked in Dolomite Camp!! the place is wonderful with beautiful chalets nested on top of a dolomite outcrop with an outstanding view on the park around and a waterhole. Here is a sneak-peak of what the chalets look like.
View on the park
THE terrace!!
Agamas in the trees around the chalet
At the waterhole below the camp
From Dolomite we headed East to spend a night in Okaukuejo and then Halali. We visited nearly all the waterholes around and here's part of what we saw.
Cape turtle dove
Northern black korhaan (male)
Forest of horns
A drink with friends
Black rhino
Etosha classics

If there is a place you have to visit when travelling in Northern Nambia it's this one!! Palmwag conservancy is well known for its desert elephants but we discovered many other species and landscapes worth seeing. There is one tiny part of the concession in the South side that is used for day visitors stating at Palmwag Lodge (run by Wilderness Safaris) but the rest is huge and very wild. Campsites are only designated by a signpost and fire marks from previous visitors.
We spent 2 nights there but it is worth spending at least one more in the Hoanib river.
Nope, it's not a water fall, just marks left by the previous rainy season.
First camp in Palmwag
Mountain zebras
Desert elephant
Yes, 3 black rhinos together in broad day light with a baby one!!! Such a wonderful sighting!!
Namaqua sandgrouse (male)
Namaqua sandgrouse (female)
The view behind the car...
... And the view in front!!!
The biggest Mopane tree I've ever seen!!
Second camp in Palmwag
Water was still flowing in the Hoanib river se birds where plentiful there, as well as elephants feeding on reeds.
Three-banded plover
