• Kayaking with the Cape fur seals

I usually don't do all these touristic activities, but once in a while, a friend of a friend is a guide somewhere, so I enjoy the opportunity. This is what I did in Walvis Bay as we went kayaking to have a close encounter with the Cape fur seal colony living at Pelican point.

Only the pups of the year (born in November-December) show any interest in the kayaks while the adults just go about their day, completely undisturbed by our presence. The pups are very curious and playful, and usually follow the kayaks and come close and bite the oars. It was a very fun experience and I recommend it for anyone spending some time in Walvis Bay. We went out with Pelican Point Kayaking for almost the whole morning and they offer a selection of hot drinks and snacks when you come out of the water!
