• Starting for the Glen Reenen National Park camp site, there are many trails going up the mountain. One of them is 2 days long but I only walked the 4h one, called the Wodehouse Trail.

It is a very nice walk taking you up to 2500m of altitude with nice view on the whole range and the Drankesberg as well. I saw many animals one the way up there like elands, black wildebeests, zebras...

  • So for about 2 weeks I stayed in Clarens, a small village at the foot of the Golden Gate Highland Np that I had to cross to get the University of the Free State( UFS) campus in Qwaqwa. Clarens is a really lovely village full of restaurant, breweries, and shops. It get very busy in the weekends as it is only 4h drive away from Jo'burg and people come and relax there.

Now about Golden Gate NP. It is composed of sandstone mountains covered of green meadows interrupted by colourfull cliffs ranging from white to red-orange, really breath taking. But see for your self...

They are also numerous mammals species such as black wildebeest, plain zebras, springboks, blesboks, elands and black-backed jackals.
